Tip Your Sewer Project FAQ

Tip Your Sewer Project FAQ

This project started because we experienced clothing makers and artisans, especially overseas, being taken advantage of. People who are talented and working hard not making a live-able wage and working in unhealthy conditions. We needed to do something. We decided to vet our factory, where we make our Clad & Cloth label, to ensure fair trade and good working conditions. Our hope in the future is to expand this line and only be selling our own pieces made in fair trade factories.

But we didn't want this to just end with us. We wanted to give all our customers the opportunity to make tangible change in peoples lives that would otherwise not have access to. So now you, along with us, can help support real people in their endeavors to pursue happiness.

What is "Tip Your Sewer"?

  • The "Tip Your Sewer" project is a way to give you the opportunity to take part, alongside us, in paying your clothing makers and artisans fairly. 100% of your tip goes straight to the artisans!

Who gets my tip?

  • 100% of your tip goes to the people who made your garment. That means the sewers and artisans that created your piece get every single penny. We pocket absolutely none of it.

What are the artisans using the tips for?

  • They are being used to pay for emergency expenses including unexpected medical bills and  school bills for their children.

Where is your factory located?

  • Our factory is located in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Why this factory?

  • We started working with this factory in 2018 after searching for years for a manufacturer that practiced fair trade and sustainability (two of which are very hard to come by overseas). We were impressed by their quality products, mission to promote fair trade, and their love of working with organic sustainable materials. They strive when possible to use ECOVERO, FSC and GOTS certified fabrics. In addition to using GRS certified recycled cotton and polyester made from used PET bottles.

Why are you doing this?

  • We believe that all people involved in making our garments should be paid fairly and rewarded for their skills. We want to bring you closer to the creators by allowing you, along with us, to give back in a real tangible way. 100% of your tip goes towards the people who made your garment. Artisans, that we believe, need to be paid fairly for their skill and labor. We want to give you the opportunity to give back to these artisans. Through the generations we have lost sight of the creators and we want to take that power back by giving you a window into the factory that produces our garments, and most importantly, the people behind the curtain.
